Essex Pride and Chelmsford Museum Presents :

Essex Pride and Chelmsford Museum are coming together to create ‘Behind the Rainbow’, an exhibition opening in June 2023 at the museum that tells the story of the LGBTQ+ communities in Chelmsford and Essex through their eyes and voices.
Submissions are now open! Deadline to submit is Friday 31st March 2023.
The exhibition submission is open to artists, photographers, writers, and anyone that would like to share their story that is part of the LGBTQ+ community, or allies sharing LGBTQ+ histories. Entrants must be current or former residents of Chelmsford or Essex.

Terms and CONDITIONS
By submitting to this Open Call for ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’, you agree to the provisions of these terms and conditions and to comply fully with them.
The exhibition is open to artists, photographers, writers, and anyone that would like to share their story that is part of the LGBTQ+ community or allies sharing LGBTQ+ histories. This exhibition is open to all residents in the county of Essex, especially Chelmsford.
If you are under the age of 18 you must have permission to enter from your parent or guardian. By submitting an entry for the competition, your parent/carer/guardian is deemed to have given such consent and to agree to the use of the entry as described in these terms and conditions.
The closing date for submissions is 31st March 2023.All submissions received after this time will not be eligible. Please note that sending is not proof of receipt.
The Organisers cannot be held responsible for emails that do not arrive due to the entrant’s email security settings or restrictions placed by their Internet service provider.
Your entry must be submitted digitally via the form above. No other forms of entry will be accepted.
By submitting an entry in any of the categories for ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’, each entrant declares that:
– they are the sole author of each entry and it is their original work; -they own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each image;
– they have the permission of anyone pictured in the image or video (or, where the image or video shows any persons under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required by Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride for ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’ and will indemnify Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement;
-they have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride for ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’;
– they have received any necessary permissions from the owner(s) of objects including buildings included in submitted images for the usage rights required by Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride for ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’ and will indemnify Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement.
What to enter
Poems:
Poems must be entered in .pdf format, if entering more than one poem they must be compiled in one .pdf document.
One poem per page.
A maximum of 10 pages.
Photographs:
Photographs must be a minimum of 2000 x 3000 px
Please make sure you send the full high-resolution version of your images as we will be printing the selected ones for the exhibition.
A maximum of 5 photographs per person.
An image will be rejected if it appears to have been taken in such a way that wildlife law or animal welfare requirements may have been breached or if it has been otherwise taken in an irresponsible way.
Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride reserves the right to remove or refuse any entries from the competition for any reason.
Objects that tell stories :
Images of ‘Objects that tell stories’ must be entered in .pdf format, if entering more than one object they must be compiled in one .pdf document. One object per page. The dimensions and weight of the object need to be included next to the image.
A maximum of 10 pages.
The pictures of the object needs to be taken in good lighting and show all pertinent angles.
Video:
Videos should be uploaded to a Video Host Platform like Youtube or Vimeo and share the link with us. (If it’s a private view please provide the credentials)
A video will be rejected if it appears to have been taken in such a way that wildlife law or animal welfare requirements may have been breached or if it has been otherwise taken in an irresponsible way.
Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride reserves the right to remove or refuse any entries from the competition for any reason.
Selection
The curatorial team of ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’ will select each one of the pieces that will be part of the exhibition and will get in touch with the participants at the end of March.
The selected pieces will stay in the exhibition until the end date 29th of October and wouldn’t be removed.
All selected images will be displayed in an online gallery, as well as being featured in an exhibition. Selected images will be shared on Essex Pride and/or Chelmsford Museum’s social media or website.
Usage Rights
By entering the competition, you grant ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’, Chelmsford Museum and Essex Pride a non-exclusive licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media, the images for any purpose to further its aims and objectives for this exhibition. More specifically to use:
- At presentation events, including exhibiting the images in an exhibition.
- On the Chelmsford Museum and Essex Pride website and email communications.
- In the press for the purposes of publicising this exhibition and the promotion of Chelmsford Museum and Essex Pride.
- In conjunction with the main sponsors to further promote this exhibition. .
- If you are under 18, you confirm that you have consent from a parent or guardian.
The organisers will make every reasonable effort to ensure that name credits are given to any photograph published in any medium.
Data Protection
We will keep your details on our secure database to enable us to use your images or videos (see usage rights) for the duration of ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’ and to send you information about the events organised as part of the exhibition. We value your support and do not pass on information about you to any group or individual outside ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’, Chelmsford Museum, and Essex Pride committee.
Indemnity and Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’’, Chelmsford Museum and Essex Pride exclude its liability for any loss, damage, injury, cost or expense suffered by you, whether directly or indirectly and howsoever caused, in connection with the exhibition. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’, Chelmsford Museum and Essex Pride’s liability for death or personal injury arising from ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’ or Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride’s own negligence
or any other liability that cannot, as a matter of law, be excluded.
You agree to indemnify ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’ or Chelmsford Museum or Essex Pride against any loss, damage, injury, cost, or expense suffered by ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’ and Chelmsford Museum and Essex Pride as a result of your entry in the competition, including (but not limited to) any claim of infringement of intellectual property rights made by any third party.
General
The information given in these Terms & Conditions is correct, but ‘Behind the Rainbow Exhibition’, Chelmsford Museum and Essex Pride reserve the right to change any of it without prior notice. By entering the exhibition, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.Any breach of these Terms by an entrant will void their entry. If a breach has occurred but is discovered after the set-up of the exhibition, then the organisers may be required to take further action.
You agree that if you are selected to be part of the exhibition or artist you will take part in and cooperate fully with reasonable publicity and to the use of your name and art in such publicity.
These Terms and Conditions shall be governed and construed in accordance with English Law and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
